SAM XL has launched its first maritime project called STREAM! A €2 million grant will be used to develop a self-learning, automated line with welding robots and cobots. The goal is to achieve more efficient processes, lower costs and a stronger international competitive position of the Dutch shipbuilding industry.
Combining expertise with innovation
Dutch shipyards excel in their ability to build a wide variety of unique, customer-specific vessels using the same infrastructure for each ship and within a short turnaround time. These modern shipyards need new automation and robotisation technologies to remain at the forefront of niche markets.
This project is carried out by Neptune Marine – Royal IHC, Scheepswerf Gebroeders Kooiman B.V., Mercury Yacht Construction BV (an Oceanco Company), RoboHouse and SAMXL.
STREAM is part of the broader Yard of the Future partnership (Werf van de Toekomst), in which nine ship yards work together: Neptune Marine – Royal IHC, Scheepswerf Gebroeders Kooiman B.V.,, Holland Shipyard Group, Den Breejen Shipyard, Scheepswerf Slob, Oceanco, De Haas Rotterdam Shipyard, Damen, InnovationQuarter and Deal Drecht Cities.
With STREAM, the parties involved are taking an important step towards more modern and future-proof shipyards in the Netherlands. The application was supported by subsidy agencies IMC Organisatie Personeel Subsidie BV and Uniresearch B.V.
This subsidy is part of the Subsidy Scheme for Maritime Innovation Projects of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, through Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development).
