During the ACM International Symposium on Automated Composites Manufacturing, André Florindo presented the R&D project to create a tank. This will be used as a demonstrator of an oxidizer tank for a small orbital launcher.
André: “We used Automated Fiber Placement with a tow steering. The complexity resided in ensuring the utmost and constant quality in the curves. Airborne contacted us to produce this demonstrator, because we have the infrastructure and the expertise – and we can deliver in a dedicated timeframe. As an Automated Manufacturing Engineer, it’s rewarding to see that
TU Delft’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering will conduct follow up research. We supported our colleagues with our practical knowledge from the experiments, in order to convert this into analytical models”.
