Rinze Benedictus and Joris Melkert have been appointed Officers of the Order of Orange-Nassau on the occasion of the King’s birthday. This royal honor recognizes their exceptional contributions to science, education, and society.
Professor Rinze Benedictus received the award for his pioneering work as an international expert in the field of aerospace structures and composite materials. In addition, his important role in the strategic development of TU Delft and his commitment as a mentor and colleague were expressly recognized. As a co-founder, he also played a crucial role in the establishment and development of SAM XL.
Associate Professor and Director of Education Joris Melkert was honored for his broad knowledge of aviation and his ability to make complex issues accessible to a wide audience. In social and political discussions, he stands out for his clear distinction between facts and assumptions. He is also highly regarded as an inspiring educator and a pioneer in educational innovation.
In addition to Benedictus and Melkert, TU Delft colleagues Bart van Arem and Regine Vroom also received royal honors. Here at SAM XL, we are proud to recognize Rinze Benedictus, whose contribution has been crucial to the establishment and strategic direction of our field lab.
