SAMPE stands for the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering. The 2022 theme: “Composites – The Gateway to Green Mobility?” is evidently very relevant to all parties involved in the aerospace industry.

Our colleague Abhas Choudhary presented together with Gabriele Ridolfi (GKN Fokker) in the ‘Thermoplastics for Aerospace’ session, about our collaboration and contributions to the multi-functional fuselage demonstrator project (STUNNING). We zoomed in on SAM XL’s specialisations, such as robotic pick and place, ultrasonic spot welding and the development of an industrialised continuous ultrasonic welding process.

Abhas and SAM XL business developer Aydin van den Bergh had great networking with the SAMPE community with OEMs, material manufacturers, research institutes as well as academics in the high-performance materials & processes sector. Our 3D printed model of the gantry with the airplane fuselage helped us go more into detail during the networking session. There was a lot of interest in collaborating with SAM XL in future automation projects, so we can look back on a fruitful participation!

For more information on our accomplishments, see the STUNNING project page.
